Innovative design approach for material, carbon and cost efficiency in steel buildings

Price & Myers, Innovate UK

This seminar will present the current findings of an ongoing research project funded by InnovateUK – UK’s Innovation Agency, that seeks to understand the trade-offs between cost and carbon efficiencies in the design and fabrication of steel buildings. The reasons for current over-design are explored and novel design optimisation techniques are evaluated and discussed.

Stathis Eleftheriadis and Ben Gholam from Price & Myers will be joined by colleagues from the University of Cambridge, SCI and William Hares and will host an evening seminar followed by a Q&A session. They will present current findings of an on-going research project funded by InnovateUK that seeks to understand the trade-off between cost and carbon efficiencies in the design and fabrication of steel buildings. The reasons for current over-design are explored and novel design optimisation techniques are evaluated and discussed.
